Not just American Grafitti.....

Ancient Graffiti

Many travelers today lament the blight of world capital cities that fight an endless battle with graffiti.  But graffiti and the desire to leave one’s mark dates back for centuries.

For instance, at the Philae Temple in Egypt, located on the Island of Philae, travelers may find the musings of Napoleonic soldiers etched into the temple walls.  And even that most famed of landmarks, The Sphinx that adorns the pyramids at Giza, did not escape the brunt of Napoleon’s occupation of Egypt.  The Sphinx is missing its nose as Napoleon ordered his soldiers to use aim at the Sphinx’s nose for target practice!
